Let’s face it, nobody enjoys having to make an insurance claim. But don’t worry, we've got your back. Here you can find out how to file a claim, what you need to consider, and also how you can help ensure your insurance claim is processed as quickly as possible.

A few basic tips on how to file a claim

  1. First things first, does your policy cover the claim? Check the policy carefully to find out whether your claim is actually covered.
  2. If an item was damaged, take photos of the damage.
  3. Did someone see what happened? If so, exchange contact information, so that your witness can confirm how the damage occurred.
  4. If it is relevant, report any loss or damage arising from theft, arson, malicious damage, riot or civil commotion to the police or relevant local authority, as soon as reasonably possible, and obtain a crime reference from them.
  5. Keep the bills for your insured items in a safe place. You will need them, for example, if you report a theft.
  6. Getsafe can only deal with your claim quickly if we have all the necessary information. You can help us by providing complete and correct information on the incident.
  7. The greater the damage, the longer the claim may take to resolve. Don't worry, we haven't forgotten you!
  8. Make sure your insurance policy is active for the time of the claim. You can check your policy start and end dates by looking in your policy schedule.

File your insurance claim with Getsafe

No matter what insurance you have taken out with us, you can always report your damage directly and quickly via the Getsafe app. This is possible at any time, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Simply go to the app and click on the “Claims” button in the navigation bar below and then "File a claim".

Our chatbot Carla guides you through the claim report step by step – this doesn't take longer than five minutes. (Tip: The more detail you give Carla, the better and faster she can process the claim.)

Once everything is cleared up with Carla, she will send an email with some final questions that are necessary to process the claim. If any information is missing or if we do not completely understand your claim, our insurance experts will contact you. You will also receive your claim ID from our customer service team.

Reporting a claim often involves contacting the claimant and witnesses and this can sometimes take some time because they might be difficult to reach or away.

When all the necessary questions are answered, we will send you an email with a decision on the claim and payment details.

What you can do if the Getsafe app is not available

If your Getsafe app is not available, then you can contact the Getsafe customer service team on +44 20 3608 4144 , 7am to 7pm Monday to Friday. You will need to provide your full name and contact details, your address and postcode, the policy number and circumstances of the claim.
