My name is Louisa. I am 26 years old, I live in Limburg an der Lahn and am a Fashion & Lifestyle Influencer. Through my job, I am always on the lookout for the most beautiful photo spots in and outside of Germany, which is why I love to travel frequently. Besides my smartphone and my camera, my car is an important companion in my everyday life. Since I took over the car from my boyfriend, he has always taken care of my car insurance. Personally, I haven't had to deal with insurances and to be honest, I always find insurance very complicated, because the insurance's benefits are pretty confusing and sometimes not clear for a person who is not familiar with insurance. Unsurprisingly, the topic always slips to the bottom of my to-do list. Luckily, my boyfriend studied insurance and finance, so he feels super confident with the subject and always helps me with any questions.

After all that, you might be wondering why Getsafe asked me to share my experience of insurance. Well, it’s because you're probably similar to me, so I wanted to share how I became much more insurance confident. But first, let me start at the beginning . . .

My first experiences with insurance

My first contact with insurance was in the 9th grade when my parents took out international health insurance for my stay in New York. Fortunately, I didn't have to make use of this, although it did give me a little more security during my first big trip abroad without my parents. I didn’t quite understand what insurance was but knew it made me feel safer so I could focus on having fun.

Keep this in mind when switching your car insurance policy

Obviously, insurance always costs money. So a comparison is always a good idea. Last year, I saved €200 when I changed my car insurance because my existing insurer increased the premiums. This happened despite me having no accidents or claims! I immediately made use of my special right of termination to find a better deal. This year, I will compare my car insurance with my boyfriend again.

You can get a better deal by following my 8 tips:

  1. You can cancel your existing car insurance policy every year until 30 November.
  2. After receiving your premium increase, you have a special right of termination but must do it within 4 weeks.
  3. To get the best deal, compare car insurances. Your details such as the annual mileage, your claim-free years, the number of drivers, the nightly parking space should always be identical.
  4. In addition, some insurers also offer discounts, like membership of an automobile club or a BahnCard. This stuff is cool, but I think great customer service is more important than random perks.
  5. Further discounts are also available for a second car.
  6. Always check whether the services offered by your car insurance are necessary. For example, if you are a member of an automobile club, you do not need an additional accident and breakdown cover.
  7. When purchasing your insurance, you should also consider choosing discount protection. Without discount protection, you will be downgraded considerably in the event of an accident and the premium for the following years will increase.
  8. Last tip: With the Getsafe app, you can see all your insurances at a glance, change your insurances quickly without a lot of paperwork, get help via their chatbots, and the best benefit ever is that they reward safe drivers. You get a 5 percent discount on your insurance premium for every claim-free year. 😊

I hope I was able to give you some helpful tips so that you can save on your car insurance this year as well and at the same time motivate you to deal more with insurance in general.
