Hi Nicole, you’ve been the office manager at Getsafe headquarters in Heidelberg since August 2021. How did you get here and what does your typical day look like?

I saw the job opening on Stepstone and applied for the position very traditionally through the career page. But I already knew Getsafe from a friend. The coolest thing about my job: Every day is different and more often than not something unexpected happens. For example, the other day I fixed the coffee machine by myself! At first, you stand in front of the device and think: What am I gonna do now? And then you’re just doing it. People need their coffee!

That’s awesome. And what’s been your highlight at Getsafe so far?

The company event in October of last year was an amazing highlight. When I started in August, that was my first big project right from the get-go. We immediately started planning and coordinating all of it. As the organiser, the event itself was more stressful for me than for the rest of the Getsafe team, but it was a lot of fun. And I received positive feedback through and through, which motivated me because I didn’t even know that many Getsafees at that point.

Do you like the role of the hostess during your free time as well?

Absolutely. I’m definitely the mom of my friend group; I really enjoy taking care of other people. And my job as office manager feeds my helper syndrome a lot as well (laughs).

Before you started at Getsafe, you once spent four years at Lufthansa as a flight attendant, a dream job for many young people. What did you take from this experience?

For starters, I got over my fear of flying quite fast (laughs). I wasn’t even really going to do it. When they were looking for people, I randomly thought I’d give it a try. That’s why I was super relaxed during the interview, and I think that was part of the reason I ended up getting the job. It was really great and all of the travelling was awesome. We also did regular emergency drills – I definitely remember those!

And now you save lives by fixing coffee machines! What is something you can learn from your fellow Getsafees? And what’s something they can learn from you?

I have already learned to be a lot more open and to approach others more openly than before. Everyone in the team is nice and open-minded and you can talk freely with them, which I love. With regards to what others could learn from me: that’s a hard one (laughs). Without false modesty, I would say that others can probably judge this better than me.

Do you have a daily ritual?

Yes, in fact I have a fixed morning routine! I get up very early in the morning, meaning between 5 and 5.30am every day. I realised that this cycle works best for me. Once I get up, I go on a walk with my dog Sophie. Afterwards I do yoga and drink my first cup of coffee.

Sophie has kind of become the official Getsafe office dog by now …

Yes! I usually bring her on Tuesdays and Fridays. She’s from the shelter and still pretty young. That’s why she’s rather wary in the beginning. But as soon as you’ve won her heart, she’s the most loyal friend on earth. She’s absolutely amazing. Of course, I always ask around in the team if anyone’s bothered by her being there. But people have actually started asking about her if I don’t bring her to the office for a week.

What do you do in your spare time if you want to do something for yourself?

I like to have coffee with friends and I spend a lot of time with my family. And I work out a lot to keep myself fit. I also give aquabike classes on Saturdays, that’s like doing spinning in the water!

What would you do if you knew that you couldn’t fail?

Minimise suffering! I would start with the whole Covid situation. It would be so great to have more Getsafees come to the office without all of the tests and the supervision. And a matter close to my heart would be to see to it that all animals are well. Therefore I would eradicate animal abuse from the world wherever I could.
