Pre-existing and waiting periods
Any illness or injury that existed before cover began, or that occurs before the waiting periods end. Usually 1 month, some listed conditions have a 12 months wait.
Cosmetic and non-medical
Procedures done only for appearance or convenience, such as cosmetic surgery or tail docking. Only treatments that a vet deems medically necessary are covered under this policy.
Pets older than 8 at start
Pets that were older than 8 years when the policy would start cannot be insured. If your pet joins earlier, cover can continue as long as premiums are paid on time.
Third-party damage or injury
For dogs, this falls under dog liability insurance, and for cats under regular liability insurance, which we offer as separate products.

Who is eligible to buy and which pets can I insure?
We cover dogs and cats. Your pet needs to be younger than 8 years old at the start date. Illnesses or injuries that existed before your policy begins are not covered. You can insure multiple pets, each one gets its own policy with its own premium.
What does the insurance cover?
Depending on the plan, we reimburse up to 100 percent of eligible vet costs. This includes surgeries, diagnostics, treatment, medication and online vet consultations. You can use any vet. We pay invoices up to four times the official German vet fee rate. Premium plans add dental, a preventive budget and more.
What is not covered?
We do not cover illnesses or injuries that existed before your policy started or that happen during a waiting period. Cosmetic procedures are not covered. We also cannot insure pets that are already 8 years or older at the start date.
What are the waiting periods?
Cover for accidents starts right away. For everything else there is a general waiting period of 1 month from the start date. Some specific illnesses have a 12 month waiting period. Online vet consultations are available from day one.
How do I make a claim?
Open the Getsafe app, start a claim, and upload the vet invoice. Add a short note if it helps. We review and keep you posted in the app. If we need anything, we will ask there. Once approved, we pay the money to your bank account.
How much does it cost and how do I get a quote?
Plans start at 6,00 per month. Your price depends on your pet and the plan you choose. Get a quick quote on our website or in the app in minutes. The minimum term is one year. After the first year, you can cancel daily.
